task:
downloadable pdfs of cd sleeve artwork for fans' pirate and bootleg cds of Dolittle music
details:
They say the CD will be dead within a week or 10 days at the outside, but there's one music sales channel where it already
IS dead and that's in the distribution of bootlegs, pirate recordings and illegally ripped songs. Nowadays the only people who sell incriminating physical CDs are those who, let's say, because of their transient, rootless, nomadic existence do not have constant access to broadband... or those who sell on ebay, where you still want to feel like you've bought an object, not just a file.
Part of the problem with Bootlegs and Pirate recordings is that they're just not fetishised enough... poor design and low quality colour photocopying are hurrying along the hearse for this musical undercurrent. Shame.
With
Dolittle (that great band so much in evidence on my website of late) we decided we should and could do something to turn the tide, to put the weapons of bleeding edge design into the hands of these revolutionary street-fighters, the pirates and the bootleggers... because, well, any distribution is better than none.
We have left a french window open for turning this generosity into a revenue stream at some unspecified future date, by befriending the bootlegging fans so we can find them and prosecute them in a couple of years when the kitty runs dry...
This was such a f**king great idea you really should tell someone about it. It's a pyramid scheme. You'll get rich.
